Zivile Zigaite is a Researcher at Uppsala University's Department of Organismal Biology, specializing in paleontology and geochemistry. She earned her PhD in Biodiversity of Fossil and Modern Ecosystems from the University of Lille-1 (2008). Her research focuses on chemical signatures in vertebrate teeth and microremains to reconstruct ancient environments and biological processes. Current projects include molecular recognition tools and supervising a PhD on geochemical archives in trace fossils.
- Education: PhD in Biodiversity of Fossil and Modern Ecosystems (University of Lille-1, 2008)
- Affiliations: Swedish Research Council Fellow (2015–present), Department of Organismal Biology, Uppsala University
Her research interests span stable isotope geochemistry, rare earth elements in biominerals, and paleoenvironmental reconstructions. Notable work includes paleoenvironmental studies of the Vesiku Bone Bed (Estonia) and Devonian vertebrate diversity in Svalbard. She has also explored the application of synchrotron imaging to coprolites and shark tooth microwear analysis.
Zigaite has published extensively on Silurian/Devonian vertebrates, including thecosodont scales and conodont paleoclimatology. Her work bridges geochemistry with evolutionary biology, offering novel insights into ancient ecosystems.
