Dr. Ziba Vaghri is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Saint John. She is a global health researcher specializing in child rights, child development, and international development. Her work bridges child rights frameworks with practical policy interventions, particularly in early childhood development (ECD). Dr. Vaghri has held significant roles, including serving as the Early Childhood Development Technical Officer at the World Health Organization (2014) and leading multinational projects such as GlobalChild and InspiRights, funded by major research councils.
Her research focuses on child protection, refugee children’s rights, and climate change impacts on youth. She co-founded the International Program of the Human Early Learning Partnership (I-HELP) and led the Global Child Rights Dialogue (GCRD), engaging over 2000 children globally. Dr. Vaghri has received the 2015 Prestigious Scholar Award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and has advised governments and UN agencies like UNICEF and UNESCO.
Her publications span peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Lancet, Journal of Pediatrics) and books, including her 2022 Springer publication on UN Convention compliance. She advocates for child participation in global policy discussions and has pioneered initiatives like the BC Child Rights Symposium to disseminate research findings.
Dr. Vaghri’s work emphasizes equity, accountability, and systemic change to protect vulnerable children worldwide. Her projects and collaborations reflect a commitment to translating research into actionable policies that uphold child rights and development.
