Dr. Zi-Hua Jiang serves as Professor and Chair of Chemistry at Lakehead University, with concurrent leadership roles as Chair of Bioinformatics and Chair of Biotechnology. He joined the institution in August 2004 and maintains active research and teaching duties with office hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm in CB-4021 (Lab: CB-2040).
His academic credentials include a PhD from Universität Konstanz, Germany (supervised by Prof. Dr. Richard R. Schmidt) and postdoctoral training at the University of Alberta under Prof. Dr. David R. Bundle. Prior industry experience spans roles as Senior Research Scientist/Group Leader at Biomira Inc. (1997-2004) and Research Scientist at Alberta Research Council (1996-1997).
Jiang's research integrates synthetic organic and immunochemistry to engineer biologically active glycoconjugates, emphasizing:
- Carbohydrate and peptide chemistry for molecular vaccine design
- Immunostimulatory agent development
- Drug delivery system innovation
- Natural product synthesis and structural modification
His work has secured institutional funding including Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) support for Lakehead University and Thunder Bay Health Research Institute collaborations, as noted in October 2020 announcements.
