Zhongwei Shen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta. He holds a Ph.D. from Auburn University (2015), under Prof. Wenxian Shen, following a M.S. and B.S. from Shanghai Normal University. His research focuses on stochastic dynamics, dynamical systems, partial differential equations, and stochastic analysis, with applications to ecological and biological systems. He has held postdoctoral and faculty positions at the University of Alberta since 2015 and has been recognized with awards such as the Outstanding International Graduate Student Award (2015) and the Don and Sandy Logan Fellowship (2011–2014).
His research interests include noise perturbations in dynamical systems, transient dynamics in multi-scale systems, and data-driven dynamical systems. He has supervised multiple postdoctoral fellows and Ph.D. students, including Yurij Salmaniw and Weiwei Qi. His work spans theoretical and applied mathematics, with recent contributions to population dynamics under climate change and stochastic stability in conservative systems.
Shen has secured significant grants, including the MSCA Staff Exchanges Grant (€924,600) and NSERC Discovery Grants. He actively participates in academic service, organizing conferences like the International Undergraduate Summer Enrichment Program and serving on thesis committees. His teaching includes advanced courses on boundary value problems, partial differential equations, and calculus.
Key awards include the Outstanding International Graduate Student Award and the Bennett Fellowship. His research has been published in top journals such as Annals of Applied Probability, SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, and Journal of Mathematical Biology.
