Zhixiong Chen is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Mercy College, where he also serves as Director of the Mercy Cybersecurity Education Center and the primary Point of Contact (PoC) for the NSA Center of Academic Excellence (CAE). He pioneered Mercy’s Cybersecurity degree programs in 2007 and established the Cybersecurity Education Center in 2010. His academic leadership roles include Department Chair and Program Director for undergraduate and graduate Cybersecurity programs.
Dr. Chen holds a PhD in Mathematics and MS in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh, along with MS and BS degrees in Mathematics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research focuses on cybersecurity, cryptography, blockchain technology, AI-powered bot security, and network security, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications. He has directed NSF, DHS, DoD, and NIH-funded projects, emphasizing blockchain-based trust mechanisms and cybersecurity education innovations.
His teaching spans cybersecurity, computer science, and mathematics, including cryptography, AI/ML, database systems, and calculus. He also serves as an IBM-certified instructor in blockchain and data science. Professional affiliations include senior membership in IEEE and ACM, and roles as NSF grant reviewer and New York State Cyber Security Advisory Board expert.
His research trends reflect a strong emphasis on emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, with recent work addressing cybersecurity education, privacy-preserving systems, and secure ID management. He actively contributes to academic conferences as program chair and committee member, furthering interdisciplinary collaboration in computing and security fields.
