Zhiming Kuang is the Gordon McKay Professor of Atmospheric and Environmental Science at Harvard University, holding joint appointments in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). He serves as Faculty Director of Undergraduate Studies and is affiliated with the Harvard University Center for the Environment.
- PhD: California Institute of Technology (2003)
- B.S.: Peking University (1996)
His research focuses on tropical convection interactions with large-scale atmospheric and oceanic dynamics, particularly in understanding monsoon rainfall variability and its societal impacts. He employs high-resolution numerical models and observational data to advance theoretical frameworks, with applications to climate change and global chemistry.
Recipient of the 2011 Meisinger Award from the American Meteorological Society for early-career excellence, Kuang's work bridges meteorology, climate science, and environmental engineering. His lab develops innovative modeling approaches to address critical gaps in simulating tropical climate systems.
Teaching responsibilities include leading undergraduate studies in environmental science and engineering at Harvard College.
