Zhihong Pang is an Assistant Professor in the Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University (LSU) within the College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University (2022) and a B.S. in Building Environment from Tongji University (2017). His research focuses on building energy efficiency, thermal systems simulation, smart building controls, and occupant well-being in the built environment.
Dr. Pang explores topics such as grid-interactive buildings, thermal resilience against extreme weather, and HVAC energy savings through occupancy-based controls. He has conducted field studies on occupancy sensors in residential and commercial buildings, evaluated infection risk mitigation strategies during the pandemic, and analyzed the cost-effectiveness of energy codes. His work spans schools, offices, hotels, and apartment units, emphasizing data-driven approaches like inverse modeling and machine learning for optimization.
Recent studies highlight advancements in ventilation systems (e.g., SIREN smart ventilation), demand-controlled strategies, and occupant-centric building automation. He has openings for research assistants starting in 2024 and emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to address energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality challenges.
