He teaches courses ranging from undergraduate Chinese culture surveys to advanced graduate seminars in syntax and semantics.
Xie advises undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in Chinese syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, and bilingualism. He has published extensively on Mandarin Chinese syntax, semantics, and comparative linguistic studies, with a focus on formal linguistic theory and crosslinguistic comparisons.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as 'Traditional Chinese Culture,' 'The Chinese Language,' and specialized graduate courses like 'Chinese Syntax' and 'Studies in Chinese Historical Syntax.' He is also actively involved in the Department's research seminar program and contributes to interdisciplinary linguistic studies.
