Associate Professor Zhenhai Xia is affiliated with the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he serves as Deputy Director of the Australian Carbon Materials Centre. Previously, he held academic positions including Full Professor at the University of North Texas, USA; Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Akron; Senior Researcher at Brown University; Humboldt Scholar at German Aerospace Centre (DLR); and various roles at Hebei University of Technology, including Department Chair and Deputy Director of the Graduate School.
His research focuses on multiscale modeling of catalysis, energy materials, biomimetic systems, and nanostructured materials. Xia has authored over 200 journal articles (including *Science* and *Nature*) and a sole-authored book on biomimetic materials. Notable awards include the 2019 IUMRS-Somiya Award, 2019 Scientist Award (IAAM), and the 1997 Humboldt Fellowship.
Xia’s work bridges theoretical and applied research, emphasizing design principles for carbon-based catalysts, energy storage systems, and bio-inspired materials. His contributions span nanomaterial synthesis, electrochemical energy conversion, and advanced composites, with applications in hydrogen storage, supercapacitors, and Li-CO₂ batteries.
