Zhengzhen Tan

Zhengzhen Tan is a Lecturer at MIT’s Center for Real Estate, Department of Urban Studies and Planning, and Sloan School of Management. She specializes in real estate sustainability, net-zero carbon strategies, healthy buildings, and digital innovation. Her affiliations include MIT’s Sustainable Urbanization Lab and the Asia Real Estate Initiative. She co-founded the STL Real Estate Entrepreneurship Lab, China Future City Lab, and Sustainable Urbanization Lab, and directed MIT-Tsinghua Future City Innovation. She advises private equity firms on sustainability and digital strategy.

Education: BSc in Urban Planning from Shanghai Tongji University; MSc in Architecture from National University of Singapore.

Research interests focus on sustainable urbanization, proptech applications, and global real estate decarbonization. Recent publications explore Web3’s role in decarbonization, healthy building adoption, and indoor air quality impacts. She is active in AFIRE and the Massachusetts Housing & Climate Innovation Center’s advisory board.
