Zheng Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at The University of Alabama, where he has been employed since August 2021. His research focuses on numerical methods for partial differential equations, with particular emphasis on structure-preserving algorithms and computational approaches for physical and biological models.
- Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University
- B.Sc. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China
His work leverages advanced discretization techniques such as Discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods and innovative time discretization strategies to address challenges in kinetic and hyperbolic problems. He actively develops methods that maintain fundamental properties of physical/biological systems in numerical simulations.
Zheng Sun's research is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF DMS-2208391). He has previously collaborated with Prof. Yulong Xing at The Ohio State University as a Visiting Assistant Professor (2018-2021) and with Dr. Cory Hauck at Oak Ridge National Laboratory during summer internships (2017, 2018).
