Prof. Dr. Zhang Tao is a Professor of Subject Didactics in Chinese as a Foreign Language at the East Asian Seminar of the University of Göttingen since October 2024. Previously, she held teaching and research positions at the universities of Chongqing, Tübingen, and Heidelberg.
Her educational background includes a PhD in 2016 from the University of Tübingen (German Seminar and Institute of Media Studies), a Master's in Film Studies from Beijing Film Academy (2008), and a Bachelor's in German Studies from Beijing International Studies University (2005).
Zhang Tao's research centers on the cultural dimensions of language teaching, with a focus on Chinese and German as foreign languages. She explores intercultural communication, the use of media (especially film) in language instruction, and multilingualism in the context of Global Chinese. Her work integrates film and other audiovisual media to enhance linguistic and cultural sensitivity.
With extensive teaching experience at institutions such as the Goethe Institute and Volkshochschule Tübingen, she is also a certified examiner for Telc and Goethe-Institut language tests. She actively contributes to professional development through workshops and film screenings.
