Professor Zhang Dan is a Chair Professor of Intelligent Robotics and Automation at York University, with dual appointments as a Canada Research Chair in Advanced Robotics and Automation. He directs the PolyU-Nanjing Technology and Innovation Research Institute and the Consortium for Intelligent Robotics Research, focusing on parallel robotic systems and their industrial applications.
- Research Interests: Synthesis and Optimization of Parallel and Hybrid Mechanisms, Generalized Parallel Mechanisms Research, Smart Biomedical Instruments, AI/Robotics/Autonomous Systems, Aerial and Underwater Robotics.
His groundbreaking work includes developing a robotic calibration method using pseudo-error theory and cooperative co-evolutionary neural networks, achieving sub-millimeter precision in systems like the FAST telescope. He holds over 40 Chinese patents and has contributed to national standards.
