Zekun Chang is a third-year PhD candidate in Law at the University of Edinburgh's Edinburgh Law School, serving as an Ordinary Tutor for Commercial Law (2022) and Business Entities (2023), and as an Online Assistant Tutor for LLM Corporation Law (2023). His academic appointments fall under the part-time faculty rank of Tutor.
His educational qualifications include:
- LLB from Southwest University of Political Science and Law (2018)
- LLM in Corporation Law from the University of Edinburgh (2020)
Chang's research centers on corporate governance mechanisms, specifically analyzing hedge fund activism (HFA) as a board function substitute. His thesis argues that HFA positively contributes to monitoring and strategic management while generating negative externalities, necessitating nuanced legislative frameworks that preserve benefits without blanket bans. His work bridges financial regulation, shareholder rights, and corporate board effectiveness within Anglo-American governance models.
He actively engages with the academic community through conference participation including an invited presentation at the University of Groningen's Corporate Governance Summer School (2023) and the Bocconi-Oxford Corporate Governance Workshop (2021). Chang co-convenes the Edinburgh Law School Commercial Law Reading Group and organized the 9th Edinburgh Postgraduate Law Conference (2023), demonstrating leadership in scholarly discourse.
