Dr. Zeeshan Ali Syed is a Lecturer in Finance, Programme Leader for the MSc FinTech programme, and Director of International Recruitment at Salford Business School, University of Salford. With a PhD in Finance and multiple teaching awards, he is committed to bridging the gap between academic excellence, industry relevance, and global opportunity in finance education.
His research focuses on Financial Biodiversity, FinTech, Financial Inclusion, Alternative Data, and Capital Structure. Dr. Syed has published extensively in areas including machine learning applications in portfolio management, credit ratings and capital providers, financial technology's impact on economic growth, and sustainable finance. His work demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach combining finance, technology, and data science to address contemporary financial challenges.
Dr. Syed has received multiple teaching awards including the Most Empowering Staff Member Award from the Student Union (2024-2025), Award of Merit (2022-2023), and Dean's Awards for Learning (2020, 2021). Under his leadership as Programme Leader, the MSc FinTech programme grew from 19 to 80 students between 2022/23 and 2023/24, with a 100% pass rate achieved across all modules in 2022/23.
His recent publications show a clear trend toward the intersection of finance and technology, with increasing focus on machine learning applications, sustainable finance, and regulatory technology. The research spans both theoretical and applied aspects of modern finance, addressing contemporary challenges in the financial industry.
