Zbigniew Nawrat

Zbigniew Nawrat is an Assistant Professor at the Biophysics Department of the Medical University of Silesia. He holds multiple roles including Creative Director of the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development, Professor at the Heart Prostheses Institute (HPI), and President of the International Society for Medical Robotics. He is also Editor of Medical Robotics Reports.

• Roles: International Scientific Committee member, European DIH HERO project leader.

His research focuses on artificial organs (e.g., POLVAD artificial heart), medical robotics (e.g., Robin Heart surgical robot), and surgical optimization through simulation and virtual reality. He pioneered the ORGANEOM project, exploring interactions between biological organisms and artificial organs. His work includes the first cardiac surgery simulation project (1997-2000).

He leads Poland's involvement in the European DIH HERO initiative advancing robotics in healthcare.
