Zbigniew Głąb

Zbigniew Głąb serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Sociology and Social Work within the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Lodz. He holds the significant position of head of the Centre for Disability and Accessibility Studies at the University of Lodz, where he manages ongoing research activities and organizational work.

His research focuses on comprehensive aspects of disability studies, including social policy frameworks for people with disabilities, various models of disability, and the concept of independent living. His work examines the social functioning of people with disabilities, disability assessment methodologies, and support tools for accessibility. He investigates the disability movement in Poland, analyzing the identity and functioning of disabled people's organizations and the implementation of independent living concepts within the Polish context.

Głąb also conducts research on the social history of disability in Poland, exploring historical conditions of social and cultural functioning and perceptions of people with disabilities. His additional research interests include urban space analysis, examining functions, symbolism, and social conditions of urban environments, with particular attention to sociotopography - human functioning in urban space, bourgeois identity, social differentiation, and everyday city life.

As head of the Centre for Disability and Accessibility Studies, his responsibilities include managing the Center's ongoing work, conducting scientific research, science popularization, conducting classes and training, and cooperating with the external environment in the field of social policy, supporting people with disabilities, and ensuring accessibility for people with special needs. His office hours are held on Tuesdays from 15:00-16:30 in room A112 at Revolution of 1905 Street 41/43, Lodz.
