Dr. Zara Hooley is a Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University’s Centre for Learning and Study Support, affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She serves as the link CLaSS lecturer for HLS and works part-time with the Global Health Masters programme, supporting students through dissertation research. Her academic work spans interdisciplinary areas of sociology, education, and social work.

Zara’s research focuses on sexuality, friendship, and motherhood, with a specialization in the experiences of female same-sex parents and inclusive postnatal networks. She is an active member of the Centre for Reproduction Research and has published on adoption and learning development. Her recent work explores marginalized motherhood and friendship-making practices.
Her publications highlight interdisciplinary engagement with sociology, social work, and educational technology. The 2020 article on adoption and family identity and the 2021 piece on digital pedagogy demonstrate her dual expertise in social science research and innovative teaching methods.
