Zaid Alwan

Dr. Zaid Alwan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Northumbria University, UK. He specializes in Low Carbon Design, Sustainable Construction, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). His research focuses on embodied energy, building performance evaluation, and integrating BIM with sustainable design practices. Prior to academia, he worked as a BREEAM and Low Carbon Assessor in the commercial sector, emphasizing the importance of embodied energy in building design. Dr. Alwan holds a part-time doctorate in 'Building Performance Evaluation and BIM' and has authored over a dozen journal and conference papers. He supervises doctoral students and has served as an external PhD examiner. He is an active member of the BIM Academy and BIM Academic Forum, contributing to industry-academia collaborations. His work includes developing tools for embodied carbon calculation and advocating for sustainability in construction through workshops and CPD programs.
