Zahit Atçıl is an Associate Professor of Ottoman History at Bogazici University's History Department. His research focuses on early modern Ottoman bureaucracy, foreign policy transformations, and political thought, particularly under figures like Rüstem Pasha. He has contributed extensively to understanding the transition from conquest-based expansion to diplomatic statecraft in the 16th century.
His work spans analyses of key historical events such as the Amasya Treaty, the execution of Şehzade Mustafa, and dynastic marriage politics involving Mihrimah Sultan. Atçıl’s studies emphasize the interplay between ideology, governance, and cross-cultural interactions in shaping Ottoman Empire dynamics.
He has published in journals like Kadim and Turkish Historical Review, co-authored works on global historiography, and edited volumes on Ottoman historiography. His research bridges Ottoman domestic policies and international relations, offering insights into the empire’s evolution through diplomatic, military, and cultural lenses.
