Zafar Adeel is a Professor of Practice and Director pro tem at the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Simon Fraser University. His expertise spans water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and has extensive international experience in policy and research.
Research interests include the water-energy-food nexus, ethical water stewardship, and global environmental governance. He has authored/co-edited over 30 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles, focusing on interdisciplinary solutions to water and energy challenges.
Recent courses taught include Sustainable Energy Policy (SEE 773), Energy Policy (POL 452W), and Bioprocess Engineering Systems (SEE 351). He leads initiatives at SFU’s Pacific Water Research Centre (PWRC), addressing water security and climate adaptation strategies globally.
His work emphasizes policy integration across sectors, with contributions to UN initiatives on sustainable development goals and disaster risk reduction. Notable collaborations include studies on flood economics in North America and water security in Asia and the Arab region.
