Zachary Stensen

Zachary Stensen is an Assistant Professor in the Art Department at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, teaching courses in drawing and print media. He holds an MFA and MA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa, with a minor in Drawing, and a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. His work explores imagery as markers of lived experience through print media, drawing, and installation.

Research & Practice: Zach’s art employs pictographic vocabularies to interrogate the symbolic function of images in documenting human experience. He has exhibited in over 50 national/international shows and resides in collections across 20 institutions. Notable residencies include the Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium), Proyecto’ace (Argentina), and Doha Fire Station (Qatar).

Professional Contributions: Previously, he co-founded Qatar’s first fine arts major at VCUarts Qatar (2011–2020) and served as Master Printer for Fanoon: Center for Printmedia Research, organizing 25+ projects with artists like Shahzia Sikander. Current teaching includes Art 162 (Drawing Foundations), Art 218–419 (Print Media series), and Art 418 (Expanded Practices).

Labs/Initiatives: Active in Fanoon’s collaborative printmaking projects and the Four-Footed Fellows Correspondence Club.
