Dr. Zachary Felix serves as a Visiting Professor within the MFA Visiting Writers program at Reinhardt University's College of Humanities, Sciences, & Technology. Despite the program's writing focus, his academic expertise centers on organismal biology where he teaches courses ranging from introductory biology for non-majors to advanced zoology and biometry. He administers Reinhardt's biology program, coordinating schedules, fostering student development, and assessing learning outcomes.
His research passionately documents biodiversity to combat its loss through global fieldwork. He has studied giant salamanders in Japan, frogs in China, and rattlesnakes in Aruba, with current investigations focused on land snails and mushrooms. This work spans herpetology, malacology, and mycology, emphasizing empirical conservation approaches and community engagement in biodiversity preservation.
Dr. Felix extends his scientific expertise beyond academia by harvesting and selling wild mushrooms at local farmer's markets with his family during summer months, demonstrating practical application of his mycological knowledge while contributing to community food systems.
