Yvonne Wengström

Yvonne Wengström is the Acting Director of Nursing at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society at Karolinska Institutet. She holds a PhD in Oncology-Pathology (2000) and is a Docent (Associate Professor) at Karolinska Institutet since 2008. Her research focuses on cancer care, particularly the role of exercise in improving outcomes for cancer patients, patient-centered care, and oncology nursing. She leads studies such as the PREFERABLE-EFFECT trial on exercise interventions for metastatic breast cancer and the Neo-ACT trial on exercise during chemotherapy. Key grants include projects funded by the Swedish Cancer Society and the Swedish Research Council, addressing exercise integration into cancer care and symptom management.

Her work spans clinical trials, qualitative studies on patient experiences, and translational research on exercise's biological effects. Collaborations involve international teams, with publications in journals like Nature Medicine, BMJ Open, and Clinical Nursing Research. She supervises students, including Mattias Hammarström, and contributes to initiatives like the ExMed Cancer program.
