Dr. Yvonne Dombrowski is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, affiliated with the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. Her research focuses on immune mechanisms in tissue damage and repair, particularly in neuroinflammatory conditions like Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Her work investigates inflammasomes, regenerative inflammation, and myelin regeneration in the central nervous system.
Research interests center on neuroimmunology, inflammasome biology, and regenerative mechanisms. Key areas include:
- Inflammasome function during CNS myelin damage
- IL-1 cytokine effects on oligodendrocytes
- Regenerative inflammation following infectious damage
- E-cigarette vapor as an inflammasome activator
Recent publications show strong focus on neuroimmunology and regenerative mechanisms, with emerging work in dental immunology. Article keywords include neuroscience, immunology, and neurodegeneration.
Awards and honors:
- Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship
- MS Society Research of the Year 2018
- 64th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting delegate
- International Society for Neuroimmunology Best Flash Talk
Advises multiple PhD and MSc students researching neuroinflammation and tissue repair. Current research projects examine C-type lectin-like receptors in remyelination and TRPA1-inflammasome signaling. Leads the Dombrowski Lab investigating regenerative immunology.
