Dr. Yvonne Albrecht is a visiting scholar at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt University of Berlin. She is also a research associate at DeZIM (German Institute for Integration and Migration Research). Previously, she held research associate and deputy project manager roles at BIM, and worked at KomRex (Center for Right-Wing Extremism Research) at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the ISS in Frankfurt am Main.
Her research focuses on transnational migration, critical migration studies, sociology of emotions and affects, organizational sociology, and spatial sociology. She explores how emotions shape migration processes and organizational responses to diversity, using methodologies like grounded theory, ethnography, and mixed-methods designs.
Her recent publications emphasize emotional reflexivity in migration, transnational affective spaces, and the interplay between emotions and integration. She has contributed to edited volumes on topics such as right-wing populism, emotional sociology, and methodological innovations.
Yvonne Albrecht is the chair of Research Network 11 'Sociology of Emotions' at the European Sociological Association (ESA) and an associated researcher at the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 'Affective Societies' at Free University Berlin.
She studied sociology, political science, and journalism at the University of Leipzig and Université Denis Diderot in Paris, and earned her PhD at the University of Kassel in 2017 with a thesis on 'Feelings in the Process of Migration. Transcultural Narratives between Belonging and Distancing.'
