Yves Agid is a French neuropsychiatrist and neurobiologist based in Paris, renowned for founding the Paris Brain Institute in 2010. As a leading academic at this international research center comprising 900 researchers and 22,000 square meters of laboratory space, he bridges clinical neurology and fundamental neuroscience through dual expertise in patient care and molecular mechanisms of disease.
His research centers on cellular and molecular pathways in neurodegenerative conditions including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, cerebellar disorders, and peripheral nerve pathologies. He has made seminal contributions to understanding brain structures governing movement and cognition, directly translating findings into novel treatments like surgical interventions for severe Tourette's syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Recently, he has pioneered efforts to integrate humanities perspectives into neuroscience research.
Prof. Agid received the 2025 Leonardo da Vinci Award for his lifetime achievements in advancing brain science, particularly for groundbreaking insights into neurodegenerative mechanisms and visionary leadership in establishing the Paris Brain Institute as a global neuroscience hub.
