Yuxiang Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His research focuses on light-matter interactions in micro/nano-scale systems, with applications in optical trapping, optofluidics, and biomedical engineering. He is affiliated with multiple institutions including the NSF I/UCRC Center for Advanced Research of Drying (CARD) and the WPI/QCC Lab for Education & Application Prototypes (LEAP).
- Education: PhD (2011) from University of Maryland, College Park; MS (2005) and BS (2002) from University of Science and Technology of China.
- Awards: NIST-ARRA Fellow (2011), Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowship (2009), Future Faculty Program Fellowship (2007).
His work integrates nanophotonics and optomechanics, developing fiber-based tools for particle manipulation and photonic device characterization. Recent projects include fiber-optic roller coasters for microfluidic trapping and high-Q resonators for sensing.
Labs/Teams: WPI Optomechanics Lab, LEAP, CARD. Active in professional societies including OSA, SPIE, and ASME.
