Yunzhong Shu is Professor of Chinese and Director of East Asian Studies at Queens College, CUNY. He served as Department Chair from 2002-2004 and 2017-present. Holding a PhD from Columbia University, he oversees elementary through advanced Chinese language courses and developed the Chinese fiction-in-translation curriculum.
His research specializes in modern Chinese fiction and modern Chinese literary criticism, with particular focus on dissident writers from the 1930s-1940s. His scholarly work analyzes wartime literary practices and cultural narratives.
Dr. Shu's publications include the book Buglers on the Home Front: The Wartime Practice of the Qiyue (July) School, which examines leftist literary circles during China's revolutionary period.
