Yunus Dogan Telliel is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Rhetoric at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), affiliated with the Departments of Professional Writing, Interactive Media & Game Development, and Robotics Engineering. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from The City University of New York and a BA in Cultural Studies from Sabanci University, Turkey. His research bridges anthropology, technology studies, and ethics, focusing on topics such as AI ethics, generative AI's societal impact, and the interplay between religion, science, and secularism. His first book project examines religious literacy and modernity in Turkey, while his second addresses techno-anthropological frameworks in the age of generative AI.
Dr. Telliel leads WPI's NSF-funded Future of Robots in the Workplace (FORW-RD) Research Traineeship Program and co-chairs the IEEE Brain Neuroethics Subcommittee's 'Work and Employment' working group. He co-founded SWAP, an algorithm-based resource-sharing platform for nonprofits, and WheelUp!, a VR wheelchair training simulator. His teaching emphasizes project-based learning in rhetoric, AI ethics, and critical design inquiry.
His honors include fellowships from the Global Lab, Center for Project-Based Learning, and Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN). He has advised over 20 student projects at WPI, integrating ethics, technology, and societal impact.
