Yuko Aoyama is Professor of Geography at Clark University, specializing in economic geography, technological innovation, and global industrial organization. Her research examines institutional and comparative dimensions of global capitalism through case studies in electronics, autonomous vehicles, renewable energy, and tourism across the USA, Japan, India, and Spain. She serves as Associate Provost and Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, managing research programs and doctoral training initiatives.
She earned her Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley and teaches courses including Economic Geography, Globalization, and Digital Geography. Her work investigates how industries maintain distinctiveness amid globalization, with current projects analyzing mobility revolutions in autonomous vehicles and global supplier networks.
Publications address supply chain geopolitics, hybrid governance for social innovation, and regional economic development. Recent articles explore semiconductor supply chain controls, frugal innovation, and renewable energy transitions. Methodologically, her work combines spatial analysis with institutional economics to examine technological change and industrial dynamics.
