Yuki Hamada is a remote sensing scientist at Argonne National Laboratory and a Research Fellow at Northwestern Argonne Institution of Science and Engineering (NAISE). She develops remote sensing methodologies, image processing algorithms, and environmental sensing systems to detect and monitor land surface changes and ecosystem functions.
- Ph.D. in Geography from San Diego State University and University of California, Santa Barbara, with an emphasis on biophysical remote sensing
Her research interests include Remote Sensing and Environmental Monitoring, with applications in Surface Hydrology, Plant Community Monitoring, Wildlife Impact Assessment, Erosion Risk Evaluation, and Carbon Flux Monitoring. She leads technology development to enable regulatory agencies and the energy industry to examine wildlife responses to renewable energy projects during early planning stages. Her work also involves Computer Vision and Machine Learning for ecological monitoring.
Dr. Hamada leads the EcoSpec project for near real-time photosynthesis and respiration monitoring, as well as the U.S. Department of Energy’s Avian-Solar project, which uses AI-enabled bird monitoring systems to track bird interactions with solar infrastructure. She serves on the board of SpecNet.
Contact Dr. Hamada at phone: (630) 252-0087. She is fluent in Japanese and contributes to translational ecosystem intelligence research through advanced sensing technologies.
