Yujie Chen

Dr. Yujie Chen is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, part of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. She holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honors I) and a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on material composition-structure-property relationships across micro-to-atomic scales, leveraging advanced electron microscopy to develop high-performance materials.

Her research interests include engineering coatings, metallic material processing, biological material characterization, in-situ deformation microscopy, and nanostructured material mechanics. Key projects involve creating ultra-tough coatings and studying phase transformations in multi-element alloys. She has secured grants such as the 2021 ARC DECRA Award for research on ultra-tough coatings.

Recent publications highlight innovations in high-entropy alloys, nanocomposite coatings, and energy-related materials. Notable achievements include enhancing hardness, toughness, and catalytic performance in coatings and alloys through novel engineering approaches. Dr. Chen is actively involved in supervising postgraduate students and contributes to courses like Engineering Mechanics and Advanced Manufacturing Systems.
