Dr. Yuhao Dai is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) within the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), specializing in the Climate & Ocean Geoscience department. His research focuses on understanding Southern Ocean dynamics, carbon sequestration mechanisms, and paleoclimate processes. He is affiliated with the Biogeochemistry research group and actively contributes to projects exploring ocean-atmosphere interactions, deep-sea geochemistry, and tectonic processes.
Dr. Dai’s work spans interdisciplinary topics including the role of physical and biological dynamics in CO2 release during deglaciation, magnetic mineralogy of submarine basalts, and the recovery of ocean carbonate chemistry post-paleoclimatic events. His recent projects include investigating the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum and the impact of glacial cycles on oceanic carbon storage.
He has secured funding for studies such as the 'Ancient CO2 levels in a modern world' project and the ANZIC Post-cruise travel support funding. His research often involves fieldwork, such as expeditions to the Walvis Ridge in the Southeast Atlantic Ocean, and utilizes advanced analytical techniques like magnetic susceptibility measurements and isotopic analysis.
Dr. Dai collaborates widely, evidenced by his co-authored publications on topics ranging from seafloor spreading dynamics to planktonic foraminiferal proxies. His contributions enhance our understanding of Earth’s climate system and its historical variability, with implications for modern climate change studies.
