Yue Cao

Dr. Yue Cao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Research at the College of Health Professions, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Cao completed his education at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he earned a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Epidemiology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Sociology. His postdoctoral training was conducted at the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center starting in 2010.

His research focuses on interdisciplinary investigations of neurological conditions rehabilitation outcomes, socioeconomic implications of disability, and health disparities. He employs methodologies from Epidemiology and Sociology to address these areas. Dr. Cao has published 55 peer-reviewed articles, including 20 in top-tier journals, and presented 53 times at national/international conferences.

Research Contributions and Mentorship: Dr. Cao has mentored 3 postdoctoral fellows (resulting in 9 manuscripts) and 8 summer students (leading to 6 publications). As a Principal Investigator, he has secured three extramural grants: two from the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund and one from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Currently, he holds three ongoing federal grants.
