Yuan Li is a Research Fellow and Bioinformatician at the Department of Immunotechnology, Faculty of Engineering, Lund University. She serves as an Associate Researcher with eSSENCE: The e-Science Collaboration and a Human Neural Developmental Biology Researcher with MultiPark, focusing on Parkinson's disease. Her interdisciplinary work bridges computational biology with experimental systems across plant and human health domains.
Her research spans bioinformatics and genomics with dual emphases:
- Plant genetics: Peanut genomics including trait mapping for fatty acids/height, chloroplast phylogeny, and candidate gene identification for agricultural improvement
- Human health: Neural developmental biology (embryonic tanycytes in obesity/diabetes), cancer metastasis modeling via engineered bone tissue, and Parkinson's disease mechanisms
Recent publications (2019-2024) demonstrate consistent innovation in both domains: plant work focuses on Arachis genetics and breeding applications, while human studies pioneer single-cell transcriptomics and engineered tissue models for disease. This cross-kingdom expertise highlights her unique position at the bioinformatics-health-agriculture nexus.
Dr. Li actively contributes to major research infrastructures as manager of the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden. Her collaborative projects include EU-funded initiatives on Festuca genomics (2013-2020) and peanut trait mapping, often involving international consortia. Media impact includes coverage by 1 news outlet, 3 blogs, and 72 social media posts.
As an Engineering Health profile member at LTH, she integrates within Lund University's multidisciplinary networks including eSSENCE and MultiPark, driving bioinformatics applications for complex biological challenges in both agricultural and medical contexts.
