Yu-Guang He

Yu-Guang He, MD, is a Research Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He joined as an Assistant Professor in 2001 and later became the inaugural holder of the Zora Meagher Macular Degeneration Research Professorship in 2006. He also holds the Josephine Long Biddle Chair in Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research. Dr. He completed his medical degree at Tongji Medical University in Wuhan, China, followed by a residency at UT Southwestern and a vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

His research focuses on ocular-epithelial cell transplantation and ocular immunology, with significant contributions to understanding macular degeneration and retinal diseases. Notable awards include first place at the 1992 CLAO Annual Meeting, multiple Resident and Fellow Research Forum awards, and the NIH's James A. Shannon Directors Award in 1995.

Dr. He's work spans clinical and translational research, including studies on anti-VEGF therapies, immune mechanisms in ocular inflammation, and innovative monitoring technologies for retinal diseases. He has led the Dr. He Lab, driving advancements in retinal transplantation and AMD treatments. His publications address topics from molecular mechanisms to surgical outcomes in ophthalmology.
