Dr. Yu Chi is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information, San José State University. Prior to joining SJSU, she served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the School of Information Science, University of Kentucky (2021-2024), and as a Research Assistant & Teaching Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh (2015-2021). She holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh (2021), an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Wuhan University (2015), and a B.S. in Information Management and Information Systems from Wuhan University (2012).
Her research lies at the intersection of human-data interaction, health informatics, and societal impacts of human-centered technologies. She explores leveraging human-centered technologies to address diverse information needs, improve health outcomes, influence behaviors, and promote data literacy. Her work employs mixed-method approaches to answer 'how' and 'why' questions across varied demographics and contexts.
