Yphtach Lelkes is an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication with a secondary appointment in Political Science. He serves as Co-Director of the Polarization Research Lab and Center for Information Networks and Democracy, and is affiliated with the Institute for the Study of Citizens and Politics. Previously faculty at the Amsterdam School of Communication, he holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University (2012), M.A. from Temple University (2008), and B.A. from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2005).
His research examines political attitudes through the intersection of public opinion, political psychology, and communication. Primary interests include affective polarization, information environment impacts, and political belief systems. His problem-driven approach employs diverse methodologies including surveys, lab/field experiments, quasi-experiments, geospatial analysis, and computational text analysis.
Research publications demonstrate consistent focus on polarization dynamics, media effects, and political cognition. Recent work examines algorithmic impacts on social networks, media bias measurement, and crisis responses in polarized environments. Articles appear in premier journals including PNAS, Nature Human Behavior, American Political Science Review, and Journal of Communication.
