Dr. Yow Wei Quin is a Professor of Psychology and Head of the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She holds the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Chair Professorship in Healthcare Engineering. Her expertise lies in social cognition, bilingualism, and the cognitive impacts of technology. She earned her PhD in Psychology (Developmental) from Stanford University, alongside an MBA and multiple advanced degrees in Statistics and Psychology from Stanford and Nanyang Technological University.
Her research spans developmental psychology, aging cognition, and the role of technology in education and healthcare. Notable projects include investigating bilingualism’s effects on aging brains and cognitive decline prevention through digital interventions. She leads interdisciplinary teams exploring how language environment and technology influence social cognition across the lifespan.
She has secured over S$20 million in research grants, including the Land & Liveability National Innovation Challenge Grant (S$1.37M) and AME Programmatic Fund (S$868K as team PI). Awards include the SPSP Teacher/Scholar Award (2016) and Stanford’s Paula Menyuk Award (2008).
Her lab focuses on three pillars: social inference mechanisms, bilingualism’s cognitive effects, and technology-driven solutions to cognitive challenges. Current work includes developing assistive tools for dyslexic students and touch-based interventions for elderly cognition. She actively mentors postdocs, research fellows, and students in these areas.
