Young-Suk Kim

Young-Suk Kim is Professor and Senior Associate Dean at the School of Education, University of California, Irvine. She holds an Ed.D. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University with a focus on Language and Literacy, and additional Master's degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Human Development.

Her research examines language/literacy development and effective instructional methods for racially, ethnically, economically, and linguistically diverse children. Key areas include oral language skills, reading/writing acquisition, dyslexia interventions, and higher-order cognitive skill development across monolingual and multilingual populations globally.

Her work has been funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and National Science Foundation. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of Scientific Studies of Reading and chairs the Vocabulary SIG for the American Educational Research Association.
