Yoshi Miyazaki is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Rutgers University, joining effective January 2025. His research focuses on the origin and early evolution of terrestrial planets, particularly the critical period between planetesimal formation and giant-impact-induced magma oceans. He explores processes such as core formation, mantle melting, crust generation, and early atmospheric/oceanic development using theoretical and numerical methods. His work addresses fundamental questions about how Earth became habitable.
Research interests include planetary geodynamics, magma ocean dynamics, and the interplay between geochemical processes and planetary habitability. His studies aim to bridge gaps in understanding the Hadean era and exoplanet potential through interdisciplinary approaches.
Selected publications highlight contributions to crustal stability on small bodies, subsurface magma oceans on Io, water degassing mechanisms, and protoplanetary disk chemistry. These works underscore his expertise in planetary evolution and habitability.
Teaching includes a 2025 Spring course on planetary structure and formation, open to both undergraduate and graduate students. He actively seeks collaborators and advises students interested in joining his research group.
