Dr. Yoshi Kobayashi is an Associate Professor in Global Political Economy and Development at the University of Leeds' School of Politics and International Studies, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His expertise spans Foreign Policy, Economic Sanctions, Border Politics, and Health Policy, with a focus on multidisciplinary approaches to global challenges like pandemics, refugee crises, and climate disasters. He leads a Japan Science & Technology Agency-funded project on pandemic preparedness (2023–2027) and has secured grants from the Murata Science Foundation and others. His research integrates insights from social sciences and public health, published in journals like Social Science & Medicine and World Development.
Dr. Kobayashi holds a PhD in Political Science from Rice University (2013), alongside MA and BS degrees. His work bridges academia and policy, addressing issues such as vaccine procurement decisions, border closure support during pandemics, and the impact of historical violence on public health behavior. He advocates for transparent communication in counter-terrorism policies and explores how gender influences immigration attitudes.
