Yosef Zlochower

Yosef Zlochower is a Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He holds positions in the College of Science and the PhD Program in Astrophysical Sciences and Technology (AST). His education includes a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh (2002) and a B.S. from the same institution. Zlochower specializes in numerical relativity, gravitational wave astronomy, and computational astrophysics, focusing on black hole dynamics, gravitational wave source modeling, and high-performance computing.

His research contributions include foundational work on the 'moving punctures' approach for simulating binary black hole mergers, development of the Pitt Null Code within the Einstein Toolkit, and studies of gravitational waveforms via Cauchy-Characteristic extraction. He has been a key member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, contributing to major discoveries like GWTC-3 and the first observation of neutron star-black hole coalescences.
