Yoram Vodovotz is a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, holding appointments in Surgery, Immunology, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, Clinical and Translational Science, and Communication Science and Disorders. He directs the Center for Inflammation and Regenerative Modeling (CIRM) at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and co-founded Immunetrics, Inc., a company commercializing his mathematical modeling research.
His research focuses on systems biology approaches to inflammation, spanning acute conditions like septic shock and traumatic injury to chronic diseases such as malaria and restenosis. By integrating computational models (ordinary/partial/agent-based differential equations) with experimental and clinical data, his work unravels multi-scale inflammatory dynamics, emphasizing "alarm/danger" signals and feedback loops between inflammation and tissue damage.
Recent publications highlight collaborations in sepsis phenotyping, dietary interventions for metabolic syndrome, and computational modeling advancements. His interdisciplinary team at CIRM bridges Surgery, Critical Care, Mathematics, and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, aiming to reprogram inflammation for therapeutic benefit.
Lab members include Derek Barclay, Fayten El-Dehaibi, Rami Namas, Jinling Yin, and Ruben Zamora, based in the Biomedical Sciences Tower. His work spans molecular, cellular, and clinical studies, with grants supporting synthetic biology projects and simulated clinical trials.
