Dr. Yongtao Qu is an Associate Professor in Physics at Northumbria University, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering. He specializes in developing light-absorbing materials and structures for renewable energy applications, particularly in thin film photovoltaics. His research focuses on eco-design, nanoparticle inks, and advanced fabrication techniques like photonic lift-off. He leads high-impact projects, including a £247k British Council-Newton Fund initiative (2021–2023) and a €2.67M Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network (OWIN6G).
Dr. Qu is the Centre Manager of the EPSRC-funded ReNU CDT, achieving IOP/RSC accreditation in 2022 and training students for Registered Scientist (RSci) status. His teaching includes Advanced Photovoltaics and Semiconductor Physics, recognized by a HEA Fellowship (Distinction in PGCAP).
