University of Southamptonمعرفی
Dr. Yongqiang Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. His research spans microbial fermentation, anaerobic digestion, hydrolysis of organic wastes, membrane filtration, wastewater treatment, and resource recovery.
Dr. Liu's research interests include:
- Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment
- Biofilm applications for wastewater treatment and industrial fermentation
- Anaerobic digestion of energy crops, agricultural wastes, food waste and municipal solid waste
- Nutrient removal and recovery from wastewater
- Aerobic granular sludge technology
- Biodegradable plastic production from waste streams
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on optimizing anaerobic digestion processes, improving wastewater treatment technologies, and developing sustainable approaches for resource recovery. His work shows particular emphasis on greenhouse gas mitigation, nutrient recovery, and the application of advanced materials like calcium peroxide and biochar in water treatment systems. The research consistently bridges theoretical understanding with practical engineering applications.
Dr. Liu has received significant recognition for his work, including:
- Science & Technology Progress Award (2006)
- Singapore Millennium Foundation Post-doctoral Fellowship (2005)
- Science and Technology Progress Award (2001)
- Stanford University top 2% of world's leading scientists (2020-2024)
As an active researcher and educator, Dr. Liu supervises multiple PhD students while teaching key courses in waste resources management and wastewater process engineering. He serves on editorial boards for academic journals and reviews research proposals for major funding bodies including BBSRC, EPSRC, and international research councils.
