Yong Yang

Dr. Yong Yang is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the College of Engineering, West Texas A&M University. He joined the faculty in 2017 after earning a B.S. in Aircraft Design and Engineering from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (2011), followed by an M.S. (2016) and Ph.D. (2017) in Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington. His expertise spans computational fluid dynamics, numerical analysis, and the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture. He teaches courses in calculus, linear algebra, and machine learning.

His work integrates computational tools like LES (Large Eddy Simulation) and DNS (Direct Numerical Simulation) to study shock-wave interactions and vortex structures. He is an active member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), serving as advisor to the student chapter at WTAMU and a reviewer for international journals.

His publications emphasize flow control mechanisms, vortex identification algorithms, and nonlinear flow modeling. Recent studies explore the sensitivity of micro-vortex generators in supersonic flows and AI-driven analyses of flow profiles. His research bridges theoretical mathematics with engineering applications, particularly in aerodynamics and fluid dynamics.
