Yong Xue is an Associate Professor at Suffolk University in the Department of History, Language & Global Culture. He holds a PhD and MA from Yale University and a BA from Peking University.

His research focuses on Chinese and Japanese history, emphasizing cultural exchanges in world history and agrarian urbanization in Jiangnan from the 11th to 20th centuries. He explores economic and ecological links between urban and rural areas during Late Imperial China.
Yong Xue has contributed to Chinese media as a columnist and regular contributor for major newspapers and magazines. His book Zhihua zhishuo de zhengzhi (Politics as a Straight Talk) was published by Guangxi Normal University Press.
