Dr. Yogesh K. Vohra is a Professor University Scholar in the Department of Physics and Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He leads the UAB Center for Nanoscale Materials and Biointegration (CNMB), an interdisciplinary research hub focused on nanotechnology, materials under extreme conditions, and biomedical applications. His research spans solid-state physics, nanotechnology, and materials innovations with emphasis on high-pressure studies of novel materials.
Dr. Vohra holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Physics from Delhi and Bombay Universities, India, with postdoctoral training at the University of Paderborn (Germany) and Cornell University (USA). He has secured grants from NSF, DOE, NASA, and others, overseeing 23 Ph.D. and 9 MS students who now work in academia, national labs, and industry.
His research explores high-entropy alloys, transition metal borides, and rare earth metals under extreme pressures, uncovering phenomena like superconductivity, phase transitions, and metallization. CNMB’s work integrates nanomaterials for biomedical implants, drug delivery, and vascular grafts. Recent studies emphasize machine learning-driven material design and plasma-based surface engineering for biomedical applications.
